Garçons return from a five-year hiatus with ‘ruff n tumble’, a fun, melancholy-tinged indie-pop track that signals the direction of their new album Rugged. The Canadian duo comprised of singer/songwriter Deelo and producer/director Julian Strangelove, have emerged with something that feels more lived-in and reflective, while retaining a strong melodic instinct. Upbeat guitars and overlapping melodies give the track an infectious momentum, balanced by a wistful undertone. Lyrically, it nods to life's challenges and the need to keep your footing when things get tough, with the playful refrain 'it be a jungle, make you so humble, you better not fumble' capturing the sentiment perfectly. A melodic, feel-good return with a little grit beneath the surface.
