Always in her own lane, Klein reveals a poignant reality TV-inspired video for 'c thru me'. Lifted from her recent surprise album my own fairytale, 'c thru me' is a gauzy composition of glacial synths and subtle industrialism. Fleshed out with creeping strings, the churning track could easily be one to lose yourself in, if not for the occasional skipping rhythms. Standing in direct contrast with the track, there's a lot going on in this video, making it a work of art in itself. Co-directed by Mizu, the self-written video casts Klein as both showrunner and newest cast member, blurring the lines between reality, performance and manufactured drama. Opening with a first-day confessional, Klein enters a world of dancing girls, petty rivalries and backstage politics, featuring real-life New York strippers playing versions of themselves. While the girls dance, Klein quietly collects the money, only to find herself bullied, robbed and crying in the men’s toilets (in a segment which you're not entirely sure if it’s scripted for ‘ratings’). Playing with the absurdity, humour and cruelty of reality television, Klein creates a tragicomic portrait of an outsider trying to find her place. Watch and listen here now.
