The Klittens
List Pick
July 13, 2026
Amsterdam post-punk group The Klittens have announced their debut album, Have A Heart, and released its lead single, 'Taxi'. It's a laconic, deceptively hooky piece of smoke-filled garage rock, its explorative guitar parts offset by a loping drum groove and washed-out glimpses of electronic percussion. Shades of classic Krautrock and post-punk (Neu, The Raincoats) line up alongside more contemporary referents: there's something of BEAK> in this track's cyclical rhythm, while the melodic sensibility of Porridge Radio's Dana Margolin helps guide the listener through the winding verses. Yaël Dekker's vocal sounds almost artificially relaxed, as if she's straining to maintain her composure despite the obvious tension of repeated lines like 'I don't need anybody… until I do.' What appears to be serenity at first becomes darker and more complicated with each listen. The Klittens have been around a little while now, carving out a distinctive place for themselves in the Dutch underground music scene. In some ways, they're a more experimental outfit than many of their indie-rock peers in the Netherlands (Pip Blom, Personal Trainer, Lewsberg), but they're also behind many of that scene's most compelling melodies. Their debut promises great things: Have A Heart is out on 25th September via the band's own Cargo Records.
