If Carmody isn’t a name you’re familiar with by now, then you’ve been missing an awfully good trick. The young talent originally came up through the Tom Misch camp, featuring with him on tracks including ‘The Last Song’ and ‘Easy Love’. Whereas this connection was more apparent in some of her earlier solo releases, which used Misch-esque noodling guitar lines and wandering melodies, it feels as though Carmody is finally finding her own voice in ‘Before You Knew Me’. The track has a more solid, beat led feel, and her vocals soar in the downtempo choruses. With tracks as strong as this, we can only hope ‘Before You Knew Me’ is a sign of things to come.
