D'Anthony Davis
List Pick
October 5, 2026
D’Anthony Davis returns with 'Blicky', continuing to shape the sound of his new Electric Soul era. At the heart of the track is a pretty simple feeling: you were supposed to be my peace. The hook lands on that idea, capturing the frustration of a relationship that has become a constant headache. When boundaries keep getting crossed and every conversation brings another layer of tension, the whole thing starts to wear you down.
The title adds another layer, with D’Anthony comparing his partner to his “blicky” (pistol) something that’s ready to pop off whenever things get sticky. It’s a sharp metaphor for the volatility running through the relationship, giving the song an edge that sits underneath its smooth groove.
Sonically, there are clear nods to the soulful, psychedelic R&B of D’Angelo, particularly the loose guitar-driven feel of 'She’s Always in My Hair' and 'Tutu (Til It’s Done)'. D’Anthony’s musicianship keeps the track feeling organic, with the guitar doing plenty of the talking.
Following Crashin’ Out, 'Blicky' is another strong marker of where D’Anthony is heading, bringing guitar, R&B and rock instincts into the same conversation. If this is what Electric Soul is shaping up to sound like, we’ll be paying attention.
