Cardiff quintet Why Horses? have signed to Brace Yourself Records, the London label responsible for key releases by the likes of Grandma's House, Italia 90 and Dog Unit, and celebrated with new single 'Yr Big Day'. It's a compulsive, slightly aloof slice of post-Windmill art-rock, its slippery single-note guitar lines and choppy drums establishing an effective bed for Gabriel Austin Lester's baritone croon. His delivery is what really elevates this track, lifting it from a relatively familiar collage of Black Country, New Road-style post-rock mood shifts to something more intriguing and elusive.

Interestingly though, as sardonic as the song often feels, there's something far more earnest at its core. “My mom always told me that you could pretty much do whatever you wanted on your birthday," says Lester. "After a fight with my family last year on my 21st birthday, I started to question what I should actually be doing. The song is a reminder of what a birthday should be about: a celebration of your life and how amazing it is that you’re still alive."
