In stark contrast to the rest of Singapore’s hectic, fast-paced rock scene, Vegtable make slow, spaced-out slowcore. Their new single, ‘Stay’, is a creeping, restrained cut that places minimalist guitar loops above barely-there drums, while vocalist Jeriel Lim delivers hauntingly indecipherable lyrics. Guitarist Daniel Borces says of the track: “I was obsessed with 22º Halo. I really like how the guitars are so dry and so sparse, but the feeling he gets out of it…it’s a lot. So I was trying to replicate that. In terms of the structure, to make it feel uneasy throughout the whole song, there’s some clashing notes we wanted to keep. The melody came first, then Jeriel wrote some stuff that fits. I’m pretty sure it means something, but we don’t talk about these things.” The band’s new album, Hit By A Car, drops on October 16th, 2026, via Field Work Recordings.
