New Orleans eccentrics Twisted Teens have an uncanny knack for slipping between genres while never sounding like anyone other than themselves. And they do so at quite a rate: they're about to release their third album this year, The Holy Cross Tigers, out on 6th Nov via Sub Pop. 'Stalks' is the latest single from the record, and it's a gem. The grizzled drum machines and acid-fried synths of egg-punk stalwarts like Powerplant and Prison Affair combine with folksy garage rock songwriting to disorientatingly charming effect. It's a bit like hearing Jonathan Richman improvising at an open mic night several days into a bad trip, and that's a good thing.
