Viennese psychedelic band Takeshi’s Cashew have returned with their new single, ‘Press Play’. Their sound, which they describe as “psych medieval Nintendo core” is expansive – a cosmic take on modern funk keeps the whole thing together, but their 8-bit timbres and blend of folk and video game-esque melodies land on something entirely unique. On the video for ‘Press Play’, the band says: “During the production of our new album, the following idea took shape: Why don’t we create the soundtrack to a fictional ’90s video game? That became our guiding principle, which we used to steer the recording and production of the songs, and we even tailored the song titles to fit that theme. What could be more natural than to create a matching music video, where we as a band would essentially be immersed in a vintage video game? Thanks to some talented people in our circle of friends, we’ve now created this extraordinary music video for our album opener.” The band’s current album, Planet Odyssey 64, is out now via Siluh Records.
