Musical polymath and modern classical pianist Steve Hackman has revealed his latest piece, ‘I Know That She Can Hear Me’. It’s a slow, quiet and meditative composition that showcases Hackman’s gift for writing tender, subtly complex piano works and performing them with emotion. While wonderfully evocative and expressive, this release is minimalist in comparison to some of his flirtations with postmodern pop recontextualisation. On the making of his new album of solo piano impromptus, SACRED MATH, he shares: “The beginning of my musical journey is at seven years old, sitting down at the piano and just improvising...I believe that spirituality and creativity are two sides of the same coin. The improvisatory act, the creative act, is a spiritual one. It's where we are connecting with something that's bigger than ourselves.” SACRED MATH is out now.
