London-based alt four-piece Speedial have dropped their new single, ‘Perfume’. It’s a unique release that draws from jazz-fusion in its twisted saxophone countermelodies and shuffling drum patterns, and brings in a tense post-punk vocal approach that ebbs and flows along with the track’s fluid textures. The band explain that the track is about “empathising with someone that hurt me, because I had hurt someone in that same way before. That puts you in a really weird position where you can’t simply be angry at the person because you know exactly where they’re at. Some of that anger you transfer to yourself too, because now you know how it feels to be on the receiving end, and there’s a lot of immediate self reflection that has to come from that.” This is the band’s first new release since their 2025 EP, Light of The Late Night.
