‘Waggle Dance’ is the latest track from award-winning composer, sarod virtuoso and Earth Day Network Ambassador Soumik Datta, as well as a long list of collaborators. The tune, inspired by seeing a butterfly land on his shirt while stuck in dense Mumbai traffic, brings together a variety of Indian classical influences with field recordings, biological soundscapes and links to his cinematic compositional background. He adds on the background of the track: “Bees communicate through something extraordinary called the waggle dance, a figure-eight movement scout bees perform when they return to the hive, telling the others exactly where and how far they've found nectar. When we started working on this track, we imagined what that dance would actually sound like inside the hive. So the rhythm is dance-inspired: fast, trance-like.” Soumik Datta’s new album, Melodies In Slow Motion, will be released on October 21st, 2026.
