Having quietly made a fantastic solo album between playing in bands (including Gently Tender), Peckham-based Mancunian Sore Loser has released his new LP Everyone Is Wrong Except For Me. Starting strong, 'Hey Man' is a brooding combo of laissez-faire vocals and strung-out guitars. Coaxed forward by hypnotic drums and roomy piano parts, Sore Loser explains: "Hey Man sort of just fell from the sky. One day a week I was renting a studio space where I would open up Ableton, throw in a drum loop and see what came to me. I’d slowly build the song layer by layer, until I eventually got to the hardest part, the vocals. I think it must have been late by the time I got to the vocals because I delivered them much more quietly and subdued than usual, I think this makes for a smooth, moody album opener." Akin to a Northern (English) Neil Young, Sore Loser is a criminally underrated talent.
