Leeds five-piece Slick Cage have dropped their debut single, ‘Sink’. The track, which places the inspiration of late 70s Manchester and 90s NYC up against their own fiercely unique approach, is driven by its relentless bass line. Explorative funk undertone clashes with the crunchy sheen of layered guitars and the distant textures and melodies of modular synth. Occasional grumbles of dissonance, shuffling, off-kilter rhythms, and juxtaposing textures ensure there is a tense air of unpredictability to ‘Sink’, with Adam Rundle’s hooky vocal building in intensity throughout. Formed in 2023, the band quickly became a staple of the Leeds underground, before consolidating their sound and lineup in 2025 and returning to record recently.
