‘Pollyanna’ is the latest single from South London duo Sandhouse. It’s an engaging track from its opening moments: fragile electronics flitter around Anna Sutherland’s airy voice before introducing powerful alt-rock textures in the chorus. Her voice is a light, floating contrast to the grumble of synths and deep, distorted guitars that form the blend of grunge and trip-hop that the band have so seamlessly developed. They explain that the track “is about becoming numbed by the cinema of infatuation, and using the fairytale of romance to blindly ignore any signs of reality.” Keep an eye out for news of a new project from Sandhouse in the near future.
