Atlanta-based artist, producer, engineer, instrumentalist and animator Rokkai brings a genre-fluid approach to 'Check up', a laid-back hip-hop cut featuring Obumneme and MiindOfKam. Raised on his father’s collection of underground hip-hop gems, with musical influences spanning classic soul, jazz fusion and progressive rock, Rokkai brings a warmth to his production that complements his easy flow over the track’s cool, understated beat. Reflecting on authenticity, emotional growth and what matters beyond money and appearances, the song pairs introspection with a playful edge. The accompanying visual opens with Rokkai and Obumneme in a doctor’s waiting room, setting up a funny spoof that plays into the song’s title and self-check theme. It’s a lighthearted entry point to some deeper questions about what we’re chasing and staying true to ourselves along the way.
