A talent so great it's hard to put into words, Lankum and ØXN's Radie Peat makes her solo debut with the devastating 'Still I Love Him'. The emotive tune was brought to Peat's attention by fellow folk-innovator John Francis Flynn, who came across it in the Irish Traditional Music Archives and envisioned an emboldened female take on it. Taking a highly nuanced approach, which explores the highs and lows of a particularly challenging romance, Peat conveys conflicting feelings with her inimitable voice and a considered soundtrack, explaining: “I was trying to show the two sides of the coin here, I was trying to get across the two extremes that can exist when we are experiencing love.…I was representing his escalating bad behaviour with minor chords and sombre tones.” She continues: “there has to be great love to go through that suffering - I wanted the chorus brimming and gushing with romance represented in the vocals and instrumentally with the strings”. Peat will perform in London, Dublin & Amsterdam at the end of the year (going into next), and you'd be foolish to miss what's bound to be an unforgettable show.
