Few songwriters have emerged from the London DIY scene (or anywhere else for that matter) over the last decade with a more distinctive voice than Irish songwriter piglet. From his early work with Great Dad and Worm Hears, to his membership of post-rock stalwarts leather.head and his expansive solo project as piglet, his knack for intensely moving yet sharp-edged melody is more or less unrivalled.

'kitchen floor' is his first release in a little while: a woozy, meditative track centred upon piglet's free-floating vocals and bumpy guitar arpeggios. It's beautiful; he has shared this typically politicised yet humane statement on its about its creation:

“I wrote this song when I was on the edge of quitting my job and had received an eviction notice for the house me and my friends lived in, which was in an almost impressive state of disrepair. the time I spent living in that house was a genuinely formative and beautiful part of my life, but at that point, after the eviction notice, after the hole in the kitchen floor became so big that people started to fall down it, it started to feel like the house and the knotweed that had become integral to its foundations were trying to take us down with it.”
