Long Distance Runner
List Pick
July 14, 2026
There's a real sense of purpose to this debut Long Distance Runner single. Produced by Moreish Idols' Tom Kellett, 'Zero' introduces the West London group with steely conviction, its wiry drum pattern cutting a well-defined groove through the interlaced guitar chimes to evoke the complexity of Mogwai without the overblown grandeur of many of that band's less capable imitators. Not that these guys are straightforward post-rock revivalists: there's a distinctly psychedelic quality to 'Zero's shifting focus, and the track's elegant rise, fall and change of direction suggests a Caribou or Jon Hopkins-like talent for building whole narratives out of repeated grooves and subtle dabs of harmony. It's strikingly fully-formed for a debut release, their sound having been refined through a busy run of early shows culminating in a recent residency at Shoreditch's Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes. Bristling with ambition, Long Distance Runner join a small but growing wave of UK bands expanding the meaning of post-rock in 2026; fans of acts like Deathcrash, Wing! and Dog Unit will find plenty to enjoy here.
