With his newest EP A WORLD OF BODIES ON FIRE arriving just 2 days ago via PRAH Recordings, prolific British-Nigerian composer Tony Njoku blesses us with the best music to listen to in hyperspace.
"They are time-warping, mind melting, awe inspiring. The world moves way faster for me when these pieces of music come on. They get me really energised and I feel like a million thoughts pass through my head when listening to them."
KMRU - With Trees Where We Can See
The opening of the wormhole, sucking you in with its immense force, like a 1000 anvils tied to your body. KMRU is a master of intensity in the ambient space. The way he uses distortion in this track is crushingly emotional and really sends me to a different place…this would be my perfect intro to entering hyperspace.
Bjork - Pluto
I’ve always found something very cosmically driven about Bjorks music. This song in particular gives me this rush and urgency to move towards something. She says in the song “Excuse me, But I just have to, Explode, Explode this body…..I’ll be brand new tomorrow”. To me that feels like something you’d have to deal with in hyperspace, the complete breaking away for the physical to then be reconfigured on the other side.
Los Thuthanaka - Huayño "Phuju"
The definition of mindbending music…..I felt a layer of inauthenticity melt away from me the first time I listened to their music. I think that’s what hyperspace would do, bring out our most authentic self. The music is spiritual and deeply moving. I feel like it holds the emotional qualities of hyperspace.
Quirkie - Break a Mirrored Leg
A classic in my opinion…..going through the twist and turns I can hear this song guiding the journey…..a myriad of lights and fractals bouncing all over the place….it’s a beautiful god dance. Maybe even psychedelic.
Flying Lotus - Clock Catcher
I might’ve taken my first tab of acid to this album Cosmograma….one of the best, Flylo is one of those sonic adventurers that i’d consider a spirit guide for me on the astral plane…..His music would definitely feature in anyone's hyperspace experience.
Aphex Twin - Vordhosbn
The godfather, and from my personal favorite Aphex album….I really need not say more.
Alif Hilal (fka Lyra Pramuk) - Gravity
Alif’s work has been a breath of fresh air…..feels uncompromising and devotional. This track has felt like taking string arrangements through a wormhole and contorting them until unrecognisable and looping them in an eternal spin through this immersive sonic environment that's both futuristic and deeply grounded in past ritual.
Tony Njoku - ETERNITY
I know it’s my own song lol but it does feel like a nice closer for this hyperspace experience. A forlorn conclusion on this journey, where everything begins to dissolve and time seems to stretch beyond itself. It feels less like an ending than a quiet acceptance……a moment to sit with what's been discovered before returning to the world a little differently.
