On the day of their debut release with Underplay, eclectic hyper-pop risers Lover1k have shared their "life is a movie" playlist. Following a series of packed-out shows at The Haggerston, the duo are entering an exciting new chapter and have dropped an almighty anti-love bomb anthem to welcome it. Fusing elements of dancehall, cutting-edge pop and an infectious party energy, 'On My Own' is just the beginning for these talented DJs and self-confessed film buffs. With a secret release show taking place tonight in Hackney (details available via their mailing list), let's dig into their selections below.

Alice's picks:
Felt - Ferdinand Magellan
A beautiful, beautiful song that can turn any mundane waking into a film. The kind of music that lifts you up on a bad day and adds meaning to the meaningless in a very Amelie way.

Steely Dan - Dirty Work
A classic down on your luck, cheer up song. Although this song is about an affair, as a musician and full time grafter I spend so much of my time working and pulling jobs out of my arse, so I can relate to the lyrics from that point of view. I’m always doing someone’s dirty work. And, in many ways, I am Tony Soprano.

Portishead - Glory Box
At college I studied film. For my final major project I made a short film inspired by Mike Leigh’s ‘Life Is Sweet’. As a twin from a British family with drama, eating disorders and two incredibly kind, supportive and funny parents it was super relatable. I tumblrfied my version by making the intro to the film this song.

CCFX - 2Tru
Moody and cool. Perfect for being the main character.

PJ Harvey - Man-Size
It’s angry, feminist and powerful. And even smarter than that it’s taking everything she’s seen, felt and heard as a woman and flipping it back in vengeance. As a tiny little woman I’m made to feel less than all the time, but inside I feel ‘man sized’. I love it when woman act like men, to me it feels the world has made it so unnatural for us to be that confident and ‘give a fuck’. We’re not allowed to do anything without overbearing judgement and criticism and it’s so powerful to throw that all in the bin and do what you what. This would be my redemption song.

Lev's picks:
oqbqbo - Airdrops
final boss of songs to be listened to while being at an airport

Blue Suzuki - Lust For Youth
one of my favourite songs to listen to when travelling and exploring a new city

Washington Phillips - Mother's Last Word To Her Son
hearing this for the first time in the film "we need to talk about kevin" and ever since gave a feeling of sadness and nostalgia whenever listening to it

Cheriimoya - Living Life, In The Night (feat. Sierra Kidd)
main character on a late night road trip vibes

Rozie Ramati - Drown in the Clouds of Dew
somewhere between floating and dancing
