The third release from the upcoming Blue Note album Memory Bomb explores themes of dedication, sacrifice, and the challenge of balancing professional ambition with personal relationships. There’s an effortless fluidity to the production, as jazz harmony and hip-hop rhythm move around one another, whilst leaving enough room for Planet Giza and Shibo to make their mark. Their verses bring a grounded, conversational energy to Kiefer’s hazy instrumentation, creating that sweet spot where the warmth of live musicianship meets the looseness of hip-hop. Kiefer’s playing remains the star of the show, though. Playful, soulful and constantly shifting beneath the vocals, with small melodic details revealing themselves with every listen. The accompanying looped visualiser created by Mason London continues to develop the surreal world established with the run of releases, making ‘BusyForYa’ feel like another chapter in Kiefer’s beautifully constructed universe.
