Brand new on our radar, In the Belly of a Whale is the debut EP from Juyane Kaya. Simply going by Kaya, the Dutch musician's music is delicate and heartfelt. Felt heavily on 'Goldfish' there's power in the vulnerability on show. Moving through satisfying chord changes (played on a nylon string guitar), Kaya's lyricism is tender and striking. Elsewhere on the EP there's whiffs of Aldous Harding, Lykke Li and Anna B Savage about Kaya's breathy vocal style and slightly off-kilter approach. Perfect for a slow morning, In The Belly of a Whale is an accomplished body of work that identifies Kaya as a blossoming songwriter with a bright future ahead.
