‘Desert Hills Motel’ is the dark, cinematic first release from Juli von Lou. The track finds a place between a distant, melancholic landscape full of fuzzy vocals and sweet strings, and a modern indie-pop compositional style that takes inspiration from everything from Bowie to Bluegrass. Either way, it’s a tender and deeply melodic debut. Julie says the track tells “the story of a girl who promised me Nevada, and in the song and mentally when it was written, I was roaming the strip waiting for her.
