Jules Reidy bends the sound of their guitar into arresting new shapes on 'Clerestory Windows V'. Beginning with a sharp lattice of programmed arpeggios and emerging into a more spacious segment of subtly detuned chimes, there's an almost algebraic quality to this music: precise, exacting, underpinned by a coherent schema. The track is the fifth part of a wider suite, that in turn reflects half of Reidy's new album-length project Clerestory, which the Berlin artist created alongside New York's JACK Quintet. The Steve Reichian patterns that unfold and weave together are uneven and dissonant at times, but that's the point: this is music that is attempting to map new, perhaps challenging terrain.
