There's a quiet confidence to this new Indigo Sparke single, and it's well-earned. 'Weird Fish' is a gently-unfolding dream-folk meditation on the "strange intelligence of love", with each element carefully added to the mix as if by the teaspoonful as Sparke's intimate vocal provides a consistent focal point. There are echoes of Cassandra Jenkins' almost impressionistic compositional style here, an effect of shades, hues and dabs in constant motion, subtly contributing to a fluidly beautiful whole. You have to really know what you're doing to pull this off, but we're in safe hands with Sparke.

'Weird Fish' is the latest single from her new album There Is A Light on the Horizon Line, out 12 February 2027 on her own label Everwilde. The record was produced by John Parish, who is perhaps best known for his work with PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding and Eels; Indigo Sparke more than deserves her place in that impressive company.
