It's always impressive when an artist takes the most familiar parts of a given style and somehow breathes new life into them. Greg Freeman's 'Indu' could crop up at more or less any point in American indie rock history from the 1970s onwards, yet it doesn't just sound derivative or nostalgic. There's something genuinely dynamic and committed here: a talent for fraying the edges of the garage or college rock canons to find new angles, new emphases, new passions. It's not reinventing the wheel, but doesn't sound particularly interested in doing so; this feels much more focused on communicating a certain feeling as directly as possible.
