Experimental Australian musician gi (aka Gigi De Lacy) is a product of the Sydney DIY underground, a fertile scene in which genres and subcultures are constantly interacting and shaping one another. “I grew up going to DIY shows where there would be like a hardcore or noise group followed by live techno followed by post punk or a drum ‘n bass DJ,” she has said, “and I’m most inspired when everything overlaps and nothing is discrete, when everyone is unified by the pure impulse to make things happen on our own terms.” This gives new track 'Bashing' valuable context, its layers of drone, scratchy programming and shivering beats adding up to a genre-ambiguous whole that feels potently open-ended.

It's De Lacy's first release for Unheard of Hope, part of the overlapping collective of labels and collectives that also includes Tin Angel and Meat Machine, and counts the likes of Mabe Fratti, Crack Cloud and Nov3l among its previous signees. gi is a very promising addition to that catalogue.
