Copenhagen songwriter GB (aka Gustav Berntsen) just released his new album Herzsprung via AD 93; it's his most expansive and ambitious work yet, and it delivers on the considerable promise of previous releases like Gusse Music and Reste/Falter. 'Shit River' is one highlight amongst many, and he's just released a striking new video for it, directed by Frederik Tøt Godsk.

Like much of Herzsprung, 'Shit River' combines the earnest delicacy of Berntsen's Robert Smith-like croon with thick, cyclical chords fringed with elements of noise and indeterminacy. It's almost a conventional slice of Smashing Pumpkins-style alt-rock – but not quite. Somewhere in that ever-so-slight disconnect between what we hear and what we expect is the active ingredient that makes GB's work so captivating.
