You can almost smell the sea air on this track from Garefowl. The international collective, founded by Scottish folk musician Ewan Macdonald with his father Murdo and named after a monstrous, now-extinct flightless bird, have dedicated their new album Things That Vanish to the remote Hebridean archipelago of St Kilda. Recorded at night on its largest island, Hirta, the record combines traditional folk textures with field recordings and digital processing to create something eerily beautiful. 'Buthaigir/Puffin' provides a perfect introduction: this is a delicate yet ancient-feeling thing, intimately expressive of its dramatic surroundings.

Things That Vanish is released by AD93 on 2 October.
