‘I Have Been In The Desert So Long’ is the latest single from Frank Lloyd Wleft and his Orchestra. As with much of Wleft’s work, the track is defined by his trademark idiosyncrasy: his voice sounds wired and imbued with Pavement-esque voice breaks, while the blend of post-punk and Americana that underpins his off-kilter melodies is just detuned enough to create that distinctly uncanny sound. “This is a portrait of the US sterilisation of its Western landscapes,” he says. “Midnight daylight in the neon of Las Vegas. The burst of heat as you step between an air-conditioned 4x4 and an air-conditioned hotel room in Phoenix, city without centre. No glass by the pool.” The track is taken from the upcoming debut album, The Actual Kids In Actual America, which drops on July 3rd, 2026, via Strong Island Recordings.
