New Orleans-based singer-songwriter and multidisciplinary artist Dawn Richard has revealed her new track, ‘chuuuuurch’. She says the track, which features Jelly Joseph, is “a conversation with myself—addressing my journey through this industry and the many times I’ve had to remind myself of who I am. Culturally, saying ‘church’ is its own kind of affirmation. It’s ‘amen.’ It’s ‘you right.’ And sometimes, when no one else is there to affirm you, you have to amen yourself. The song mirrors that journey musically.” While largely centred in dance music, the track nods toward gospel and R&B, and continues to build texturally as Richard’s voice builds in its passion and range. Her new album, Creole Culture, drops on October 9th, 2026, via Merge.
