Alt-rock newcomer cordelia gartside has revealed her new single, the Twin Peaks-themed ‘laura palmer’. “Two years ago, I started watching Twin Peaks with a friend,” she explains. “The week before Lynch died, we saw 'Fire Walk With Me' at an old cinema. In a peeling room with red velvet curtains, I felt it change my life in real time. I had to be very still and quiet for a few days; I felt a lot and wrote a lot, then I wrote this song. I'd never written about a fictional character before, but I'm not sure Laura Palmer is a fictional character. She's very real to me.” Musically, this track is restrained and moody, with just enough of a surrealist layer coming from its eerie, distant drones to fit into Lynch’s landscape. Its eventual build into a full-band texture is a cathartic reflection of the post-rock influences that define gartside’s huge, absorbing sound. The track is taken from gartside’s debut EP, pattern repeating, which drops on November 13th, 2026, via state51 Distribution.
