Brighton-based eight-piece collective big long sun have released their new single, ‘heavy (on your mind)’. It’s a subtle, lo-fi gem recorded entirely by bandleader Jamie Broughton from his bedroom studio, as is the remainder of the album, love songs and spiritual recollections, from which it is taken. The track is propelled primarily by its effortlessly memorable vocal melody, which takes centre stage above a simplistic accompaniment. The bridge of the track allows the rest of the band to make an appearance as part of a warbling sound collage, just about held together by an ever-present acoustic guitar, which guides them back into a final chorus reprise.
