Tokyo-based four-piece bed have returned with their latest effort, ‘ズーキッド|Zookid’. It’s a pulsating, bass-heavy cut that begins life as a dingy, cliptune track defined by its shifty low-end, distorted snares and clipped lead vocal. In a strange way, it’s almost club music. By the end, however, it has become a frantic piece of hardcore punk, with manic drums colliding with dissonant drones and a furious, polymetric bass loop. They say the track is “the name of a bar in Tokyo that’s become something of a hub for our community. We’ve always been interested in how rock ‘n’ roll can be brought into nightclubs in Shibuya and London through modern sound systems. This track is an extension of that idea. We wanted to make something that our friends, the people we always hang out with, could really go wild to. We were excited to create something that sounds like rock music and bass music are violently clashing with each other. We would describe it as a kind of bass rock music.” bed will be touring the UK and Europe this October and November, before heading over to Brooklyn and Los Angeles.
