South London songwriter and producer Alice Barlow has released a new single on Domino. 'Behind' is a post-rock-inflected indie ballad that's built deceptively simply, rolling guitar arpeggios and shuffling drums providing ample space for her remarkably clear, precise vocal. There is no detail out of place here, each element justifying its inclusion and afforded exactly the right amount of space in the arrangement.

Barlow may be familiar to some as a member of the vocal-focused group Woom, as well as a regular collaborator with many of south London's most explorative musicians over the past decade or so. She's always gestured towards a busy potential solo career while pursuing other projects, but with this and previous single 'In A Vice', perhaps her focus is shifting. Both are superb: hopefully there's more to follow.
