London-based, Taiwan-born sound artist An-Ting 安婷 has made a name for herself in the world of ambient, experimental and electronic music this year. Her album, Lost Communications 失絡之聲, is a collection of innovative soundscapes inspired by her travels around the UK, Mongolia, Sichuan, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Her dark sonic world captures the essence of nature itself, with binaural recordings of birdsong, fire, water and other natural occurrences being treated and manipulated into an expressive juxtaposition of organic and electronic sounds. “I want to blend the birdsongs with my artistic expression to introduce people to these complex languages and nonhuman voices,” she says. “Through this, I hope this will make us more aware of different life forms on this planet and inspire greater kindness toward other species.” It’ll be interesting to see what’s next for this forward-thinking artist. -Dan Peeke
