SWIMM UH HUH

Remember when we introduced you to the California-via-Florida based band Swimm with moreish single ‘True Romance’ a few months back? Well, of course you do! And good news listeners, the outfit (founded by Chris Hess and Adam Winn) have returned with a sultry little number called ‘Uh Huh’. It’s drenched in ‘70s psych rock, in late nights, in guitars and lie-ins. To explain further what we mean, here’s how the band puts it: “Uh Huh” is a bounce-house-party version of a slacker-gen anthem.  It deals with that guilt that comes with being a night owl and working in an industry that is prone to late nights and late sleeping.  What do we miss in those early morning hours? What gems of knowledge are escaping us when we sleep through ‘The View’? This song is us sitting under the interrogating sheen of the Flolights and CBS morning camera lenses, across from Barbara Walters and asking her, “If I left behind the lifestyle I’ve grown accustomed to as a function of this wacky occupation, God, what would I be trying to prove?” Clearly, it’s a tongue-in-cheek F-U to those who decry the musical profession, who criticise these night owls for well… for doing their job. Possibly this is why ‘Uh Huh’ is embedded with footnotes of the seventies, for example that Pink Floyd-esque guitar wander, because that’s an era that the pre-slacker generation still reveres with respect. Memory is a fickle thing indeed - wilding youths become polite morning TV presenters beckoning “uh huh” to their latest inane guest and Swimm wants to remind you of that. - Hannah Thacker
