The latest track from Whispering Sons is taken from their debut album Image. ‘Hollow’ is an apocalyptic track, with a video to match that subverts the usual, manic depiction of apocalypse and replaces it with an uneasy serenity. Its desolate, desert-like setting contrasts the density of the guitars that underpin the piece, with the repeating lyric “I’ve been afraid too long” encapsulating its tone. The EP which preceded this album/track reached number six in the Belgian Ultrapop charts, with their single ‘Alone’ reaching first place on Studio Brussel’s De Afrekening list. It’s clear that the band are on course for big things in their home country, but this track could easily be what propels them into worldwide success. - Dan Peeke
