W4RP Trio have teamed up with rapper LiKWUiD to drop their fantastic new single, ‘The Devil Went Down to Cackalacky’. The band are a genre-fluid chamber ensemble who experiment with modernist orchestral work, cutting-edge jazz and a variety of other sounds and timbres. With this one, the hip-hop influences come to the forefront, with LiKWUiD bringing a country twang to her flow. Lyrically, it takes the story of the devil trying to steal your soul and twists it on its head (the devil loses). The track is taken from the band’s upcoming album, Sermon Of The MatriarK, which drops on January 9th, 2025, via Phenotypic Recordings. They expand: “Try as we might, instrumental music alone can only go so far in communicating the details of these stories. We are thus forever indebted to a longtime friend of the band, the amazing lyricist and human Faybeo’n Mickens (LiKWUiD), for taking our rough concepts and lyrically running a marathon with them.
