Serotonin is the neurological chemical that’s often lauded for the sense of well-being, happiness, elation even, and here the indie pop band The Bright Black are all about supercharged good feels without the black market prices in their newest single. Perhaps as an antithesis to the grey skies of their home city Manchester, The Bright Black is a dose of sunshine with their upbeat rhythms, disco strings and bright synth work. Led by charismatic vocals, ‘Serotonin’ encourages the listener, and no doubt dancer by a few seconds in, to celebrate themselves. Speaking about the origin of this funky number, guitarist Ryan Flanagan says, “The song was written as all our songs are, jamming in the practice room. It started as a heavy funk jam, but it was when we got into the studio that we had the freedom to turn the track into what it is now.” That’s a room we wouldn’t mind being in; serotonin inducing for sure.
