TAPIR! GYMNOPEDIE

Directly referencing both Erik Satie and Woody Guthrie as well as the ancient Greek Gymnopaedia festival of naked dancing by the sea, 'Gymnopédie' is the rather beautiful single lifted from London sextet Tapir!'s new EP Act 2 (Their God). The collection of tracks is the band's first release through Heavenly Recordings, home to a successful and eclectic roster, which includes the likes of Working Men's Club, Confidence Man, H. Hawkline, Fran Lobo & more. Reclining across 4 minutes of tasteful and considered instrumentation, made up of lo-fi guitar sounds, sustained piano plonks and violin parts that pull at your heartstrings, vocalist Ike Gray's rattling tones hark back to a potent brand of emotionally charged indie music from the early noughties, think Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Strange Death of Liberal England and even Los Campesinos!' more tender moments. Produced by Joe Futak, there's a sense of serenity that rings true in Tapir's rendition of 'Gymnopédie' that pays respect to its influences in an inventive new way. Listen and watch 'Gymnopédie' before giving the rest of the EP a spin. -Holly Mullineaux
