SUNGLASZ VENDOR ICE CREAM TUBS
Experimentally-inclined slacker trio Sunglasz Vendor announce their debut album Unwinding with their self-aware opus 'Ice Cream Tubs'. Formed by members of Bristol's avant-garde underbelly (Bingo Fury, Ex-Agent, Big Fuss, Grandchild), their disparate yet complementary reference points align in their work as Sunglasz Vendor, leaning into formative genres from jagged math-rock to deflated emo and "Kerrang! teenage angst." Following the wry lo-fi of 'Brick King' just a month ago, 'Ice Cream Tubs' feels like more of a mission statement. Weighing in at a substantial 5 minutes, it covers a lot of sonic ground. Channeling acts like Tubelord, Dinosaur Jr, Los Campesinos! and Karate, dissonant verses, uplifting backing vocals and face-melting guitar work tastefully combine at varying moments of the journey. Lyrically open and rambling, vocalist/guitarist Rafi Cohen explains: "This is an in-depth, reflective trawl through a time when me being emotionally stunted really hurt someone I care about. It goes all in on the metaphors, taking them to stupidly physical/literal extents. I like the message, though: you cannot be a good person to the important people in your life unless you are honest with them and yourself." Recorded with William Carkeet of fellow TMR faves Robbie & Mona, Unwinding will arrive on the 25th of April. -Holly Mullineaux
