Lifting the lid on her new sm^sher moniker (pronounced Smasher), Voka Gentle member Imogen Mason shares her affecting lead single 'beggars belief'. Set to appear on her debut album pit of mine, the enigmatic offering weaves haunting piano sounds with disjointed electronic beats as Mason's satisfying vocal melodies spill introspective lyrics across the textural soundscape. Mason explains: “I’m drawn to childlike, scrappy sounds, and many of my most treasured recordings are spontaneous field recordings of interesting sounds I encounter, either on my Tascam field recorder or on my phone. I also discovered a love for beat-making while making this record, using found sounds as well as recorded percussion and drum machines.” Delving into heavy themes of caring for a loved one struggling with addiction, 'beggars belief' and the rest of pit of mine (out November 15th) is a therapeutic collage of sounds, experiences and experimentation. -Holly Mullineaux
