SKINNER EISBäR
Irish no-wave artist Skinner has dropped the fantastic new track, ‘Eisbär’. It’s a cover of the 1980s synthwave classic by Grauzone, but instead of synths, we’re hit with a wall of raw grit. The punch of drums and soaring noises emanating from the distorted guitars take the track in a completely different direction, despite Skinner’s decision to maintain the track’s original German lyrics. “I've always had a real fondness for the song since I was a teenager,” he explains. “When translated to English, the lyrics are so stark and I think it really captures the beauty and sadness of what it means to be lonely. The idea of wanting to be a polar bear alone in the arctic so you 'wouldn't have to cry and longer and everything would be fine' is so striking and I think a lot of people can relate to that feeling of isolation.” You can catch Skinner live around the UK and Ireland this summer. -Dan Peeke
