‘High Note’ is the new track from London-based newcomer Sheepish. His sound blends the innocence and intrigue of Syd Barrett’s solo work with the modern, off-kilter psych-indie of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. His use of rhythm is difficult to keep up with, and his guitar melodies go beyond pentatonic simplicity, yet his uniquely normal voice manages to tie the whole thing together. “Originally performed with just guitar and vocals, the song eventually morphed into a jagged tightly arranged noughties-flavoured post-punk track. The song contrasts success with the abyss of meeting our maker (“when I went up to see them sitting down”). The outro imagines arriving at the gates of heaven.” High Note’s debut EP, Goodbye Lemon, drops on February 18th, 2025. -Dan Peeke
