Hearing Sebastian Paul’s ‘Sleepwalker’ is a best parts sandwich of the Weeknd’s production being fronted by Empire of the Sun’s Luke Steele, with dark sonic instrumentals backed by breathily crooned vocals you really can’t lose. The song comes from his Messiah Complex EP which has some out-there spoken word interludes, but transitions into lo-fi soul that’s irresistible. Much like the Basquiat artwork that accompanies the album, his songs can be flashes of real genius hidden amongst a bare bones production style. With an unlikely co-sign from dance label Mad Decent and a few shout outs, Sebastian Paul has only just started to show what he’s capable of. -DW
