Since Sam Frankl broke out with his 2017 release ‘Gold Rush’, which was praised by many for its captivating pop aesthetic, he’s been working his way up to his debut EP. Earlier this year, the Brixton-based artist shared ‘Patina’, an emotionally charged indie-pop single inspired by time spent in Columbia. We suspect that sounds from his travels across South America have also made their way into EP title-track ‘Petrichor’. Opening as a glistening pop slow-burner, the track blossoms into soaring melodies atop Latina rhythms and swirling electronica. It’s a vibrant production, full of movement, energy and emotion - most clearly in Frankl’s distinct vocal.
