SAINT JUDE TO BELIEVE (TO REPEL GHOSTS PART 2)

South-London songwriter and producer Saint Jude has returned with a phenomenal reimagining of his own track ‘To Believe (To Repel Ghosts Part 2)’. Performed and filmed in a candlelit church with just Saint Jude’s voice and unaccompanied electric guitar, the track is raw and emotive, with his thoughtful lyrics and winding melodies taking centre stage in a modernised Billy Bragg-esque way. “For me, this song is about things not being clear, our need to have something concrete to hold onto,” he explains. “Particularly in this time where there’s this general atmosphere of uncertainty. I feel like it takes me some time to work out how I feel about stuff, and this song is kinda part of that process of working things out, wanting to find a point around which you can try to make sense of things.” This reworking takes the original track and adds layers of contemplation, while acknowledging that the songwriting process is not necessarily a process that involves finality. -Dan Peeke
