Australian new wave band Radio Free Alice have revealed their new single, ‘Johnny’. The urgency and rigidity of their sound owes a lot to modern post-punk, but there’s a layer of influence lurking within that finds common ground with the likes of The Cure and Talking Heads. Those influences provide an almost gothic, bleak atmosphere that juxtaposes the relentless bass lines and jumpy vocal performance. The band explain that their newest cut is “about growing up and feeling isolated. It follows the narrative of a young guy who runs away from his very religious family because he feels alone in it.” The band’s forthcoming EP, Polyester, is going to be released on August 21st, 2024.
